An den Wänden hängen drei bildhafte Objekte: Eines davon ist ein durch Einschläge strukturierter Spiegel (1989-1). Zobernig hatte 1988 begonnen, Spiegel so einzuschlagen, dass deren Oberflächen von einem Netz aus Linien überzogen werden. Die durch den Spiegel auf einfache Weise abgebildete Realität wird so vielfältig gebrochen. Gleichzeitig entstehen abstrakte Bilder, welche aufgrund der Dominanz der Linien eigentlich als zeichnerische anzusprechen sind, insofern aber ebenso malerische sind, als die in ihnen offen zutage tretende Materialität des Glases eine ähnliche Rolle spielt wie die Pastosität der Farbe in einem Gemälde…

Three pictorial objects hang on the walls: one of them is a mirror structured by impacts (1989–1). In 1988 Zobernig began to impact mirrors so that their surfaces were covered by a network of lines. The reality depicted in the mirror in a simple manner is thus multifariously broken up. At the same time, abstract images emerge which can actually be addressed as graphic due to the dominance of the lines, yet are equally painterly in that the materiality of the glass which often appears in them plays a similar role to that of the pastosity of colour in a painting...
