Frans de Momper

A comparable painting by Frans de Momper was sold at Phillips, London, on 11 December 2001, lot 44 and then again at Bonhams, London, on 3 December 2014, lot 74. Frans de Momper, a nephew of Joos de Momper, became a master of the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke in 1629. Whilst he harked back to the example of his uncle in his early years, in the 1650s he took to painting landscapes in a reddish brown palette clearly influenced by Jan van Goyen.
