Pieter Coecke van Aelst was a student of Bernard van Orley. After his journey to Italy he was admitted to the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke as a master and became the chief exponent of Flemish Mannerism. Pieter Coecke van Aelst was both the teacher and father-in-law of Pieter Brueghel I.
