Mixed lot (6 pieces), Indonesia, Java: belt buckles in the so-called ‘Kraton’ style. Partly made of silver, white metal, or silver-plated.
Six belt buckles from central Java. Five of the six Javanese buckles are in the ‘Kraton’ style: in vertical format, with continuous external metal decoration that takes the form of openwork flowers and leaves, and set with many polished glass stones. Two of the five Kraton buckles feature external decoration made of silver. The three other buckles have decoration made of copper or brass, partly silver-plated. The transverse buckle, with full surfaces and a central figure set within a circle, is made of white metal.
Height: from 7 cm to 10 cm; width: from 4.5 cm to 10 cm. First third of the 20th century. (ME)
