Mixed lot (6 pieces), Tibet, Nepal: 2 necklaces from Nepal with pendants made of gold and silver and 4 Tibetan medicine spoons made of silver.
1: A Nepalese necklace with a transverse amulet box (‘gau’) made of silver with a finely crafted central decorative plaque made of gold. This ‘gau’ is set with three red corals and six turquoises. The lid on the reverse is made of copper.
The chain of this necklace consists of four sections of freshwater pearls, each threaded onto three hanks, and six beads made from red coral and turquoise per hank. With an additional chain made of small red beads and one silver bead as the fastener.
An impressive, valuable piece. Length: c. 34 cm (in total); width: c. 10 cm (the ‘gau’ amulet box ).
2: A necklace in the typical style of the Newar people, the main population of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. With many hanks of small red glass beads and one transverse pendant made of pure gold. In typical Newar style, this pendant is cast in one piece, and decorated with alternating rows of spikes and flowers. Length: 26 cm (chain in total); width: c. 6.2 cm (gold pendants).
3: Four Tibetan medicine spoons, cast from good-quality silver and engraved. Three of the four spoons have floral rosettes on their handles, each of which is set with a turquoise. Length: from 11.8 cm to 14.5 cm.
