Mixed lot (3 pieces), India: three ‘Shiva lingams’ made of stone.
Shiva lingams are the sacred ritual symbols of the Hindu god Shiva. They are positioned vertically in the middle of every Shiva temple in India. For a more detailed explanation see cat. no. 259. All three ‘Shiva lingams’ in this mixed lot consist of polished grey stone and display natural red inclusions, the ‘female symbol’ within the ‘male’ lingam. The larger lingam has a round red inclusion at the top and at the bottom, the two smaller ones have a red inclusion at their top point.
