Persia (Iran): a lady’s robe made of silk, woven in strips, lined and decorated.
A lady’s robe from northwest Persia (Shahsavan region, in Kermanshah Province). Made of dyed silk in narrow, colourful stripes (white, yellow, red, light green and black) in the so-called jajim technique – very finely woven. Lined with brown cotton fabric. Both the small side pockets, the collar and cuffs are decorated with pink borders and fleece. A very attractive, rare and complete textile piece. Only minor, age-related damage (some light staining, one button missing).
Dimensions: 102 cm (length with collar); 140 cm (width at the end of the sleeves). Early 20th century. (ME)
