Persia, India: a very old, small, round Indo-Persian shield made of iron.
A round Indo-Persian shield made of iron. Finished with a narrow, riveted iron edge with a square cross-section. With a slightly raised shield boss in the middle, topped with a jagged decorative boss with an iron protrusion. Around the central shield boss, the shield has four additional small iron bosses with a jagged outer edge.
The reverse of the shield still bears the original hand protection made of black leather and the strong handle made of light-coloured wood. The handle displays a visibly very old, shiny usage patina. This Indo-Persian iron shield has patches of rust due to age but otherwise has no significant damage. All in all, this is a piece that probably originates from Mughal times (1526–1858).
