Kuba (or Bakuba), Dem. Rep. of Congo: a double flute with a beautiful head.
A flute (musical instrument) made of two parts, one inside the other. By closing the side holes, a variety of tones are achieved when playing both flutes. On the lower end of the longer flute is a beautiful head, carved from the same piece, with typical Kuba patterns on its neck. Carved from hard wood and dyed black. Good usage patina. Length: 31 cm (total). First half of the 20th century. (ME)
