Cameroon Grasslands: a round stool of the Babanki, with typical caryatid figures.
This Cameroon stool displays eight charming, standing caryatid figures between the seat and the round base. Carved in the typical style of the Cameroon Grasslands (north-west Cameroon) and dyed dark brown. With minor, age-related damage: a crack to the edge of the seat and only a few, minimal breaks. Good usage patina.
Height: 32 cm; diameter: 31 cm (the seat). First half to mid-20th century. (ME)
