Senufo, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso: a fine dance sceptre for a high-ranking member of the Senufo women’s association ‘sandogo’. With seated female figure.
Priestesses or high-ranking members of the women’s association ‘sandogo’ of the Senufo people dance with such sceptres. Carved from hard wood and originally coloured brownish-black. On the typical, crescent shaped projection above sits a woman in perfect Senufo style. With hairstyle, ornaments and decorative scarification marks. A very finely crafted ritual object, with colour scuffing and patina as a result of protracted use. No damage.
