Ashanti, Ghana: a standing male figure with movable arms.
A charming, male, standing figure, carved from hard wood and originally dyed black. Fashioned in typical Ashanti style. With broad, but flat head, small coffee bean eyes and a thin, relatively long neck, composed in individual rings, and decorated with red and one white glass bead chain. The special quality of this figure is that both thin, free-hanging arms are movable. Otherwise this Ashanti figure displays colour scuffing due to age on exposed areas, but no damage, and a good patina.
Height: 43 cm. First half of the 20th century. (ME)
Provenance: Thierry Fixe Collection, Paris; currently: Austrian private collection.
