1: A ‘Mandau’ sword hilt of the Ot Danum Dayak people. Made from a stag antler, richly carved in relief, with heads of the mythical ‘Aso dragon’ (a protective figure for the Dayak), as well as with curves and volutes. In the upper section, when viewed from above, a human face.
Height: 14.5 cm.
2: A ‘Mandau’ sword hilt of the Ot Danum Dayak people. Made from a stag antler, richly carved in relief, with heads of the mythical ‘Aso dragon’, as well as with curves and volutes.
Height: 14.5 cm. Both sword hilts display recessed, round openings above for the insertion of dyed goat hair. Both are covered below in a dense wickerwork made of thin rattan strips and display good, old usage patina.
