Nepal: a typical, Nepalese Kukri knife, with two smaller accessory knives, a bag with flint and with sheath. Rarely so complete!

Nepal: a typical, Nepalese Kukri knife, with two smaller accessory knives, a bag with flint and with sheath. Rarely so complete! - Mimoevropské a domorodé umění

Knife from Nepal, called ‘Kukri’ or ‘Khukuri’, in a traditional, characteristic shape: with a heavy, slightly curved and centrally enlarged, single-edged back-blade. On both sides of its blade the present Kukri displays forged, punched decorative lines with zigzag and arrow motifs close to the back. Also the blades of both accessory knives display linear ornamentation. All three knife hilts are made of hard wood designed in a typical shape. The wooden sheath is enveloped in black-dyed leather, its front side is embossed with a linear pattern and displays a carrying ring made of metal, as well as a ‘shoe’ made of light-coloured leather (as a sign of an original repair?). On the back of the sheath for the large Kukri knife is a sheath for the two accessory knives, to which another bag is attached. Inside of this is a small leather bag with black flint (obsidian?). The entire ensemble is rarely so complete and displays excellent, old usage patina. No damage.
Length: 51 cm (in total).
Between the end of the 19th and the first third of the 20th century. (ME)
