A whole door made up of two wings. It has all been carved from very hard wood (probably teak). From a temple or a monastery. Each of the two wings of the door displays two three-dimensional figures on the front side (in total four figures): a ‘celestial’ dancer, a half-human, half-divine being (an ‘Aspara’), dancing on clouds and holding up a man, who in turn wears a large, rolled up flower garland. Each of the two wings of the door consists of hard wood and is decorated on the front side with borders of flowers in relief. It also displays volutes of leafy tendrils in the upper part. Both wings were originally accentuated in black and painted white. The back sides are unadorned and shiny. There are a few minimal, age-related tears and colour scuffing. Remains of the white ornamental painting are present. Otherwise no damage. Very rare.
Height: each 158 cm; width: each 34 cm.
18th/19th century. (ME)
