A Naga felling knife – ‘Dao’ – with a short, wide, single-edged blade and a longer wooden handle. A so-called ‘working Dao’ for everyday tasks. The ‘Dao’ can be placed into a black-dyed wooden sheath, that opens on one side, in the typical style of the Naga. The sheath is decorated on both sides with bundles of red-dyed animal hair. On both sides of this wooden sheath is a wide belt, made of black-dyed leather, that is decorated with ten rows of sewn, pierced cowrie shells. The ‘Dao’ were worn on the back by Naga men. An original, authentic piece with good traces of usage.
