An old ‘Mafrash’ bag from Northwest Persia (Shahsavan, Kermanshah Province). Used for transporting household goods on the back of camels or horses. Produced using the Soumak technique in parts and sewn together to create a voluminous bag. It has the typical, detailed red, blue and black rhombus designs framed with black and white bands with a hook pattern and blue, red and black edge bordering. The base of the ‘Mafrash bag’ is decorated with red and black stripes. It is overall an old, frequently used, beautiful piece, with some age-related damage (a few small holes).
Dimensions: Length: c. 110 cm; width: c. 50 cm; height: c. 40 cm (the sides).
