Luena (or Lovale), Angola, Zambia: a female ancestor figure with an old collection label on the back.
A female ancestor figure in ‘classical’ Luena style, with the typical, high hairstyle, slanted at the back, of the Luena (also called Lovale). Carved out of hard, light-coloured wood, with hairstyle and body of dark brown colour. With typical tribal decorative scarification marks on the face, on the temples and on the abdomen. A sculpture with good, old shiny patina. No noteworthy damage. On the back of the figure is glued an old collection label with writing.
Height: 40 cm.
