These dolls of the Fali, in northern Cameroon, have a similar meaning as the so-called ‘Namji dolls’ of the Namji (or Dowayo) from the same region (for a more detailed explanation see cat. no. 75). The ‘Fali dolls’ consist of round, notched and decorated wooden bodies, with dark dyed heads. They are always decorated with rich hangings of red, yellow, blue and white chains of glass beads, as well as with leather bands, pierced cowrie shells and old, British colonial coins. The present ‘Fali doll’ is a perfect, old example of this type. Without damage.
