Mixed lot (2 items): African archaeology, Ghana: two Komaland figures of reddish terracotta. A rider with horse and a single figure. Between the 15th and the 19th centuries.
1: A rider sitting on his horse. With a cap on his head, open mouth and a necklace around his neck. The horse is bridled with reins. Due to age slightly damaged (small tears and some pieces broken off, partly restored). Height: 29 cm; length: c. 23 cm (the horse).
2: A seated Komaland figure with long head (without mouth) and a deep dent on his parting, as is often the case with Komaland figures. With necklace indicated. Older break on the legs. Height: 18 cm. Both figures display the typical style of Komaland figures made of terracotta, which were found in large tomb sites in northern Ghana.
Komaland figures are generally dated to a time period from the 15th to the 19th century. (ME)
