Die frühen Collagen sind gar nicht so einheitlich...
Für mich selbst sind sie zum Teil Ausdruck einer großen Bedrücktheit, zum Teil aber auch Ausdruck eines Spotts, und dabei haben sie öfter auch etwas von Leichtigkeit und auch Heiterkeit...
Freud, mit seiner universellen sexuellen Wurzel des ganzen Lebens,
war für mich wirklich nicht besonders überzeugend – dass jeder Türgriff etwas Phallisches sein soll etc. –, und die Collagen sind zum Teil auch ein Spott darüber...

The early collages do not really form a unified whole at all...
To my eye, they are partly an expression of great oppression, but also partly an expression of mockery, often with a certain amount of cheerfulness and lightness as well... I was never really that convinced by Freud and his theory that one’s entire life stems
from universal sexual roots-every door a phallus and so on - ,
and the collages also mock this too...
