Friedensreich Hundertwasser*
(Vienna 1928-2000 Pacific Ocean, on board the QE II) "Look at it on a rainy day", 1971/1972, 8 of 10 colour silk screens with embossed metal, sheet 3 signed and numbered, Hundertwasser Regentag, no. 84 of 300 numbered prints, all other sheets with signature stamp and numbered 833/300, in original wooden casket signed Friedensreich on the inside and inscribed 833, 55 x 73 cm, Koschatzky HWG 45, 46, 47, 48.50, 51, 52, 53 (sheets 1 and 6 missing, sheet 2 minor damage, damage to edges of sheets 3, 4, 5 and 7 as a result of previous mounting, sheets 8, 9 and 10 in very good condition, (8), (EW)
“The term Regentag played a very particular role in Hundertwasser’s life at this time. His deeply expressed observation that “On a rainy day the colours begin to shine; that’s why for me a gloomy day – a rainy day – is the best kind of day (…)”, was imbued with its wider meaning upon the naming of (...) his ship Regentag, built in the docks of Venice. Regentag, the name of the ship which had become his refuge and studio, became a synonym for his works and personality, the expression of his will. The portfolio of 10 silk screen prints executed together with Günter Dietz was also given this “name” – an enterprise requiring great concentration and effort.”
