Chinese silk weaving,
China, Qing era, Qianlong period (1735 - 1796), c. 77 x 70 cm, late 18th century, silk and gold embroidery with two writhing, four-clawed dragons (mang), reaching towards the flaming pearl, a classic cloud pattern on the upper pictorial edge, which is characteristic of stately robes, below a spray of waves with coral branches and a world mountain as the central motif, the image looks as if it were cut on both long ends but the weave of both its upper and lower sections continues seamlessly in the stylised light and dark blue clouds, both side edges are original, mounted on linen and wooden frame.
