India, Orissa: A beautiful silver bracelet made with an elaborately crafted ornamental front.
A very beautiful bracelet for the wrist (or upper arm) characteristic as a type from the Federal State of Orissa. The bracelet is constituted with the help of six silver plaited chains coming together at the front and fastened into a large hollowed decorative part. It semicircular ‘brace’ of sorts is made of silver and consists of two parts. It is richly decorated (with round knops, silver bars, curved silver wire etc.). Placed above and at the bottom are eleven silver arrowheads analogous on either side. The arrowhead in the middle serves at the same time as a screw close for the bracelet (with English ‘counter’ winding). The inner side of the jewel brace is even. The six chains are held together at the back by three big round pegs. The bracelet is made of high quality silver and shows old signs of usage. No damage. A magnificent ornament of the highest quality! Diameter: 8 cm (on the outside); Height: c. 6.8 cm (on the front). First third of the 20th century. (ME)
