A rare old coal container called ‘mangal’. Cast from brass using the ‘waste mould’ technique, the individual parts are riveted into a flat decagonal hearth. The individual parts, the legs and the mid-pieces are decorated above with birds sitting across from one another. On all sides, the coal container stands on short, curved legs and contains a tin insert inside. One of legs, with the upper bird pair, is broken. Otherwise no damage. Diameter: c. 48 cm (on the outside). 19th century or earlier. (ME)
