Large ship Model “Le Sans Pareil” on a scale of 1/40
built by Leo Reiffenstein (Vienna 1856-1924 Salzburg) in 1913. Partly carved and guilt wood, fabric, metal. Measures c. 196 x 83 x 172 cm; damages. (WU).
„HMS Sans Pareil“ was a Tonnant-class 80-gun ship of the line of the French Royal Navy, built at Brest by a design of Antoine Groignard, laid down in 1790 and launched 1793. In 1794 it was captured by the British and spent the rest of its career in service with the British Royal Navy. Leo Reiffenstein (Vienna 1856-1924 Salzburg), was a history and portrait painter, studied at the Wiener Akademie and was trained by August Eisenmenger and Hans Makart. He worked in Vienna and was from 1882 member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus. Exhibited: Permanent Collection of Technisches Museum Wien as a loan until 1992.
