Ink and colours on silk, two leaves mounted to form one image. The lower leaf depicts the ‘Grand View Garden’, one of the settings in the famous novel, Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin (c. 1715-c. 1763). The upper leaf bears the corresponding inscription, probably a quotation from the novel, and is signed: Yuan Ru and cyclically dated, kui chou. The painting inscribed: ‘Daguanyuan quan ying, You Shi’ (General view of the Daguanyuan, Right Stone (artist’s name)) and a seal. Damaged. 32.5 x 53 cm and 41.5 x 53 cm. (BA)
