A baptism set from Augsburg,
silver, consisting of: ewer and basin, of round form, chased with rocaille décor, the hinged lid with sculpted scene of John the Baptist with lamb, the handle with half figure, the centre of the basin chased with large rocaille, height: ewer 36,5 cm, Ø basin 49,5 cm, weight: 3173 g, maker’s mark CKM = Caspar Kornmann (Seling 2380), assayer’s puncture (Tremolierstich), Augsburg hallmark 1749-1751, (Lu)
The present baptism set is referred to as "dit des Habsbourg" in the literature. It was auctioned in Brussels in 1931, on loan to the exhibition "Gold- und Silberschmiedekunst in Brügge" in 1950, and was at public auction in Brussels 1963. The exhibition catalogue "Augsburgs Zilver in Belgie", Provinciaal Museum Sterckshof - Zilvercentrum Antwerpen-Deurne 4.10.-4.12.1994 depicts the basin (p. 6) and features a description.
