J. Kändler circa 1747 (Ru)
Lit.: VEB Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen, the series of monkeys playing music were modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler circa 1750 after French precedents. The male monkeys are depicted as musicians and the female ones as singers. Peter Reinicke revived and added pieces to the Monkey Band in 1765. According to tradition, it is meant to be a caricature of Count Brühl’s music ensemble.
