Research on the alternation of white and red has persevered with a certain continuity for almost a decade with works that were accused of being covered in a kind of ‘harlequin’ skin. This feature gave them an element of contrast, an indicator of attention, a signal of presence or warning, all of which had an anti-organic and anti-naturalistic regularity; such texture could be applied to, or cover, any form or structure, and was attributed to things as ‘mapping’.
