Orient, from Persia to India: An old, small round shield made of leather, reinforced with iron and decorated with brass.
A very old, oriental round shield made of thick leather (buffalo?), originally used in close combat. With a central shield boss of iron, engraved with geometric linear motifs. The central shield boss is surrounded by six small decorative iron bosses (one missing). The shield is reinforced with a wide iron border on the outside (W: c. 3 cm). Four rectangular brass plates are attached to the iron border as decoration. Both the iron rim and the brass décor are hallmarked with lines, circles and circle-dot motifs. The back features an equally old leather grip with a leather hand guard. An unusually old object. Only minor damage.
18th/19th century or earlier. DM: 22 cm. (ME)
