Bokhara, Uzbekistan: A lidded jug, made of cast brass. With elaborate décor, signed and with a band of inserted turquoises.
A lidded jug in typical Bokhara style. Made of brass, with pieces executed with ‘waste mould’ casting (the body of the jug, lid, handle, spout and circular stand), soldered and riveted with copper. With leafy and floral tendrils, ornamental lines as well as eight medallions with animal and plant décor on the body of the jug. Fluted handle with two dragon heads. A band with small, rectangular turquoise stones runs under the lid. The flat sides of the spout feature two cartouches with signatures in Arabic script.
An unusual, carefully crafted piece!
