Two old round-shaped containers for chewing tobacco in typical Maasai form. Thickened towards the bottom and terminating in a small, central projection.
The Maasai wear tobacco boxes, such as the present ones, as pendants on their chest. The tobacco container made of ivory shows old shiny patina darkened to a honey coloured shade, with delicate age-related cracks. Likewise, the other, larger container made of black buffalo horn also shows good usage patina. Both tobacco boxes have leather lids and are attached to two carrying strips of polychrome glass pearls each.
