France, c. 149 x 176 cm, second half of the 19th century, the subject is derived from Roman mythology and depicts the goddess of hunting and the moon, Diana (Greek: Artemis) with her attributes – a crescent moon on her head, a spear and a pack of dogs – together with her brother Apollo in the act of hunting, the carpet is a silk and wool weave and is completely preserved, in good condition without visible damage, entirely secured on linen on the reverse.
