Born in the Borgo San Sepulcro to a family of painters, including his brothers Vincenzo and Matteo, Tommaso Lancisi continued to work there throughout his life. Sources show him to have been a student of Vincenzo Scaminozzi (cf. P. A. Orlandi, P. Guarienti, Abecedario pittorico, Venice 1753, p 475; L. Lanzi, Storia pittorica della Italia, Pisa 1815, p 281).
