In spring 1835 Jacob Alt travelled with his son Rudolf to Italy by order of Emperor Ferdinand I., where both worked on the socalled Guckkastenseries. Father and son must have experienced a high rise. Rudolf produced the best works at this time and in one of his numerous styles; for Jacob the development meant a climax in his work. Both artists could not get freer and more painterly. These are works when father and son became closest in their collaboration ... the mere veduta becomes a township landscape...notwithstanding the real authorship all works bear the signature of Jacob Alt.
