Alfred Brandel was trained under the sculptors Hugo Lederer and Otto Scheer, as well as in France under Eugène Barilot. Then he lived in Berlin, where he got married in 1936. In 1946 he moved to the Villa Blumenthal near Bad Ischl, where he lived until his death in 1973.
