Southwest Persia (Iran), c. 265 x 163 cm, about 1900, along the central axis three stepped rhomb medallion with side arms, a hermetic decorative pattern of animal motifs, trees and ornamental elements covers the entire central field of the present very finely knotted Khamseh carpet, the pile consistently low, a repair to the upper centre, the colour a garish red with slight ‘bleeding’; since the tribes from Southwest Persia often use very intensely dyed red tones, it is impossible to say if the colour is synthetic without performing a chemical analysis.
