East Caucasus, c. 315 x 161 cm, end of the 17th century, shaded terracotta field with two rows of interlocking sickle leaves, connected with vine tendrils, and flower buds terminating in palmettes, the present piece is a magnificent example of the profound Persian influence that is visible in the Caucasian floral carpets, after Nadir Shah outsourced their production to the Caucasus, the carpet is heavily worn with bare pile areas, many repairs and partly repainted colour details, mounted entirely on black linen fabric.
