Konya fragment,
Central Anatolia (Turkey), c. 264 x 118 cm (incl. linen fabric c. 293 x 151 cm), 18th century, this piece belongs to a group of yellow-ground Konya rugs, with 2 x 5 octagons of closed Memling guls and a cube border, despite a high occurrence of yellow the background of this specimen is unusually in red, on the grounds of its coarse knotting, superb wool quality and impressive composition the present carpet can be dated to the 18th century, only fragmentarily preserved with lower and side woven finishes, the upper end has been shortened, several defects, mounted on linen.
