Mixed lot (3 items): South America, Peru, upper reaches of the Amazon River, tribe: Yagua Indians; a quiver for blowpipe darts and a pair of ear studs with feathers. - Mimoevropské a domorodé umění

1: A round, elongated quiver for blowpipe darts, from the Yagua Indian on the Rio Atacuari, Upper Amazon River, in Peru. Made from plaited vegetable strips coated in a thick, black layer of tree resin on the outside. Open in the upper section. The pointed, long blowpipe darts are lodged in a tight bast bundle. A plaited carrying cord and a small bag of fabric are attached to the quiver. The bag, which is open on the bottom, contains white wool from the seed capsules of the kapok tree. The hunter plucks some kapok wool from the lower opening and rolls it into a small, thick stopper around the rear end of the blowpipe dart. This wool stopper creates the necessary friction to blow the dart through the pipe. A perfect object in good condition. With visible patina as a result of protracted use, hardly any age-related damage. First half of the 20th century; H: 28 cm (quiver).
2: A pair of ear studs, each with one circular ornament on the outside: consisting of trimmed yellow, red, white and black feathers, attached in stripes around a central, circular mirror plate. The back is tied to a long wooden stick (as ‘stud’) and glued with black tree resin. Woodland Indians, South America. Exact tribe: unknown. First half of the 20th century; L: c. 12 cm each. (ME)
