1: Two club heads: one is discus-shaped, cut in black grey stone and polished. DM: 13 cm, H: 4.5 cm. The other club head is cut in grey stone with a semicircular cross-section. DM: 8 cm, H: 4.3 cm. Some minor pieces broken off.
2: Four stone axe blades, cut and polished, made of black, grey and (two of them) greenish stone. L: 19 cm, 17 cm, 14 cm and 13 cm. Minor pieces broken off.
3: A bulbous ‘tapa mallet’ made of grey-brown, roughly flaked stone: on one narrow side the stone displays a surface with an incised grid pattern. This surface was used to beat the wet strips of the inner bark of the mulberry tree in order to soften them. Subsequently, the strips, with overlapping edges, were once more beaten with the same stone utensil, for the purpose of making them stick together, creating a larger surface of bark bast.
In this way the bark bast fabric known as ‘tapa’ was produced, which all the inhabitants of Oceania used in order to make their clothes! The technique of weaving with threads and a loom was known only in Micronesia and on the Santa Cruz Islands. H: 12 cm, W: 10 cm, 6 cm thick. All 7 objects with old usage patina.
