Mixed Lot (3 items): Three ‘gau’ portable altars or amulet boxes made of silver, copper, brass and iron.
1: A round ‘gau’ portable altar (or amulet box) made of silver. On the front side is an openwork ‘endless knot’ surrounded by a strip of cast and engraved leaf and blossom tendrils made of silver. Edge made of silver with three eyelets for hanging. The lid on the back is made of copper. DM: 7.3 cm, H: 2.3 cm (edge).
2: An oval amulet box. The front side of the body is made of silver and decorated with cast and engraved leafy tendrils. The centre also with a decorative ornament made of copper, set with a green turquoise stone in the middle. The lid on the back is made of copper, sealed with a leather. Dimensions: 5.5 cm x 6.5 cm x 4.5 cm.
3: A round ‘gau’ portable altar (or amulet box) made of copper and brass, with iron inlays. It displays ornamental decorations of delicate engravings on all sides. Dimensions: 11 cm x 16 cm x 5.5 cm.
All three objects 19th century to early 20th century. (ME)
