Three bangles made of very good silver, cast engraved, punched and partly embossed (both of the larger sized bracelets). The smaller bracelet is fully cast and engraved with only minor geometrical serrated lines. The largest of the 3 bangles has a central lip and three medallions. The central medallion displays two six-pointed stars in a circle, as well as leaf ornamentation. Both outer medallions display two fish alongside leaves.
The fish frequently appears as the symbol for life and fertility in the silver jewellery of Libya as well as in Tunisian jewellery. First half of the 20th century; H: 6 cm, 3 cm, 2 cm; DM: 7 x 6.4 cm, 7 x 6.5 cm, 7 x 7 cm. (ME)
Provenance: Probably purchased by Prof Dr Jan Jelinek during one of his five expeditions to the Sahara for research on petroglyphs (1977-1981) or during his work as a UNESCO commissioner for the establishment of a national museum in Libya (1976–1985). Since then under family ownership in Brno, Czech Republic.
