Yoruba, Nigeria: A cult and dance sword made of brass, richly decorated.
A ceremonial, cult and dance sword, single-edged, made of cast brass and embossed. The round hilt is engraved with linear rings and spikes (on the inside: wood). The wide blade is engraved on one side with stylised snakes and a bird in lines, circle-dots and hatchings. The other side is smooth. A rare piece with old usage patina. Minor age-related damage (small cracks). Between 1900 and the first third of the 20th century; h: 49 cm. (ME)
