Neri di Bicci was the son of Bicci di Lorenzo. He was the last artist from this family, whose workshop dated back to his grandfather, Lorenzo di Bicci. Under Neri’s leadership, his workshop enjoyed considerable success and he worked for numerous clients. Details of his activity, including the names of his numerous pupils and assistants between 1453 and 1475 are registered in his workshop diary, called ‘Ricordanze’, the most comprehensive document concerning the activity of a painter in the 15th century.
