Moritzburg castle near Dresden has retained its unique interior from the year 1723. Friedrich August I. (1670 - 1733), as the Polish King August II, had established the ‘lederne’ (leather) interior for this hunting lodge. The 58 castle rooms arranged on three main floors contained variously decorated gold wall hangings, described in 1733 in the Moritzburg castle inventory. The court leather worker Samuel Girckhoff is also mentioned in relation to the system of attaching the hangings, and is known above all for his work on the seating furniture of Moritzburg castle.
The chairs presented here can be located, thanks to the stamp with the date 1727, to one of the reception rooms at Moritzburg castle (Gisela Haase).
