Kassel, Germany c. 1804–1811, signed on the single-draw “Reissig a Cassel”, lacquered brass, turned wood tube, brass folding stand, original marbled paper covered cardboard box. (Box with damages, one brass screw later) Lens diameter c. 42 mm, height on stand c. 38 cm, length of tube c. 50 cm, box c. 8 x 54 x 12 cm. (WU).
Cornelius August v. Reissig was a scientific instrument maker at the Kassel court and moved 1811 to Sankt Petersburg. In 1810 he produced a markable Moon plaster relief and 1811 a didactical collection of prisms and other glass artefacts for Goethe’s color theory which was mentioned by Goethe in a letter to Count Semenovich.
