sold by W. & S. Jones, “To the Rt. Honorable SIR JOSEPH BANKS BART. K. B. President of the Royal Society / This New British Terrestrial Globe / Containing all the latest Discoveries and Communications / from the most correct and authentic Observations and Surveys / to the year 1799 by Capt. Cook and more recent Navigators. / Engraved from an accurate Drawing by Mr. Arrowsmith, Geographer, / Is respectfully Dedicated by his most obedient h[onora]ble Servants W. & T. M. Bardin / Additions to 1807. / Engraved by / B. Baker Islington / Sold by W. & S. Jones / Holborn, London.” The globe made up of 12 engraved colored paper gores on papermache/plastersphere, full brass meridian and hour rings, in fine, original noble wood stand with three pillars, compass (paper damaged), horizon with engraved paper ring giving graduations, months, days, zodiac signs and pictures, and compass directions; some tears and small damages, overall good condition, noting the three-legged stand is a later addition. Diameter 18 inch (c. 46 cm), height c. 120 cm. (WU)
