We are grateful to Dr. Johann Kronbichler, Bressanone, for his kind assistance in cataloguing the present painting. He recognises a connection to the painter Johann Baptist Enderle (1725–1798), who was active in Donauwörth in Swabia, and his circle.
Saint Donatus of Muenstereifel, a catacomb saint, was venerated in the entire German-speaking area as a patron saint protecting people from bad weather and thunderstorms.
